Hand and wrist surgery

Specialist care for the hand, the wrist and the peripheral nerves.

Training within leading teams in both Brussels and Paris has allowed me to develop my knowledge of the comprehensive management of conditions affecting the hand and the peripheral nerves of the upper limb.

  1. Thumb osteoarthritis and thumb joint replacement

Osteoarthritis at the base of the thumb, or rhizarthrosis, is the wear of the cartilage in the thumb joint and results in pain and a loss of strength. When non-surgical treatments are no longer sufficient, several options exist, including fitting a thumb joint replacement.

  2. Peripheral nerve surgery of the upper limb

The peripheral nerves of the arm and hand may be compressed, injured or impaired. Their treatment ranges from releasing a compressed nerve to nerve repair and nerve transfers, in order to restore sensation and motor control.

  3. Dupuytren's disease

Dupuytren's disease is a progressive thickening of the palmar fascia, the layer of tissue beneath the skin of the palm. Cords form within it and gradually draw one or more fingers towards the palm, limiting their extension. Surgical treatment aims to release these cords and restore the opening of the hand.

  4. Microsurgical hand reconstruction

Microsurgery makes it possible to transfer tissue — skin, nerve, tendon or bone — from one area of the body to the hand, reconnecting the blood vessels and nerves under a microscope. It is considered when direct repair is not possible.

The institutions where I have chosen to hold consultations and to operate benefit from teams and facilities that specialise in hand care. Access to further investigations, to post-operative care and to rehabilitation by physiotherapy teams allows patients to return to their activities at an early stage.

  • Botulinum toxin Treatment of facial expression lines.
  • Hyaluronic acid Filling wrinkles and restoring facial volume.
  • Collagen stimulators Gradual improvement of skin quality.
  • Thread lifts Repositioning facial tissue without surgery.

I perform botulinum toxin and hyaluronic acid injections to improve skin quality, fill wrinkles, restore facial volume or correct imperfections. Preserving natural beauty seems essential to me.

What is the difference between hand surgery and plastic surgery?

Hand surgery treats conditions of the hand, the wrist and the peripheral nerves of the upper limb: it aims to restore function, mobility and sensation.

Plastic surgery, here focused on the face, covers the treatment of the signs of ageing and facial enhancement. These are two distinct approaches, handled in separate consultations and, in part, at different locations.

What is thumb base osteoarthritis, and when should a joint replacement be considered?

Osteoarthritis at the base of the thumb, also known as rhizarthrosis, is the wear of the cartilage in the joint between the trapezium and the first metacarpal. It causes pain and a loss of grip strength.

When non-surgical treatments are no longer sufficient, several surgical options exist, including fitting a thumb joint replacement. The choice depends on each individual situation and is discussed during the consultation.

What does peripheral nerve surgery of the upper limb involve?

The peripheral nerves of the arm and hand may be compressed, injured or impaired, causing pain, tingling, loss of sensation or muscle weakness.

Surgical treatment ranges from releasing a compressed nerve to nerve repair and nerve transfers, with the aim of restoring sensation and motor control.

What is Dupuytren's disease?

Dupuytren's disease is a progressive thickening of the palmar fascia, the layer of tissue beneath the skin of the palm. Cords form within it and gradually draw one or more fingers towards the palm, limiting their extension. Surgical treatment aims to release these cords and restore the opening of the hand.

What is microsurgical hand reconstruction?

Microsurgery involves transferring tissue — skin, nerve, tendon or bone — from one area of the body to the hand, reconnecting the blood vessels and nerves under a microscope. It is considered when direct repair is not possible, in particular in cases of tissue loss or complex sequelae. The indication is assessed case by case during the consultation.

Which facial aesthetic injections are offered?

Facial aesthetic injections are performed using botulinum toxin, hyaluronic acid, collagen stimulators and thread lifts, for a comprehensive treatment of the signs of ageing and everyday tiredness.

The approach favours a natural, gentle view of aesthetic medicine, with the preservation of natural beauty as its aim.
